This is a wildly-rich, hot drink full of nutrition. Its full taste and texture means it is likely to be favoured by the super-healthy and those reversing disease but still wanting a chocolate treat. It’s ingredients are well proven to provide benefit in terms of immune system stimulation and also assistance with some cancers, neurological conditions and arthritic conditions. It is not for the faint-hearted though

1 small beetroot or 1/2 a large beetroot, diced

2 cups oat milk, almond milk or coconut milk (500mL total)

1 medjool date, finely chopped

1 tsp turmeric powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon powder

1 tsp maca powder (optional)

4 tsp raw unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp raw cacoa nibs (optional)

Boil the beetroot cubes in water until tender. Remove the water and add the cooked beetroot to a blender or high powered food process with half the milk, date and cacoa nibs (optional). Once pureed and consistent in texture, return to a saucepan and bring to the boil with the remainder of the milk, spices and cocoa powder.
